AEP-Medicare Advantage Plan-Open enrollment starts 10-15-12 and runs until 12-7-12, Seniors can change from MA plans back to original Medicare and purchase a UA/FUA Medicare Supplement from you! Medicare Advantage Disenrollment Period (MADP) starts 1-1-13 and runs until 2-14-13, anyone on a MA Plan can dis-enroll and return to original Medicare and purchase a Medicare Supplement! Huge opportunity for UA/FUA producers!

See below for what is in the press today, and I verified it on the CMS Medicare.gov website.  A storm victim who misses the 12/7 deadline must have Medicare’s approval to drop their MA and return to Original Medicare/Medsupp.  As a reminder, a new disenrollment period starts 1/1 for those wanting to drop their MA and return to Original Medicare (cannot go from one MA to another during this period), so for our purposes, this bridges the voluntary disenrollment period for people affected by the storm.

STORM VICTIMS GET REPRIEVE ON MEDICARE OPEN ENROLLMENT - Advocates for Medicare beneficiaries are applauding a move by CMS to extend open enrollment for those affected by Hurricane Sandy. Although the open enrollment period is due to close on Dec. 7, the agency will permit storm victims to call and request plan changes after the deadline, according to the Medicare Rights Center. The group also pressed Medicare Advantage and Part D plans to ensure any enrollees affected by the storm have access to prescriptions and in-network pharmacies.

Here is the official word from CMS:

Important: enrollment flexibility for people affected by Hurricane Sandy

Medicare Open Enrollment ends December 7, but if you need more flexibility, call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227). Your enrollment in your new plan will start the first day of the month after you enroll. For example, if you enroll on January 10, your plan coverage will begin February 1
